Opening Day 2007

It is finally going to happen, and just months before my thirtieth birthday.

After 20 years as a Cleveland Indians fan, I have purchased tickets to attend my first ever Home Opener.

Yes, I finally get to experience watching a baseball game in thermals, a knit hat and a parka.

Of course, opening day has lost some of it's luster since the Indians have fallen after a string of postseason appearances the Tribe enjoyed from the mid-nineties until 2001.

But none of that matters, opening day is an event!

Its a time to see the new faces that will fill out the lineup. Unfamiliar names who will soon undoubtedly become subject of one of my signature profanity-laced tirades after a booted ball or strikeout.

Opening Day is also a time to see some old faces, some of which inspire as much enthusiasm from fans as patients in the waiting room of the local proctologist.

No matter what happened last season. Despite all the disappointment, frustration and heartbreak. Opening Day brings the promise of a fresh start, a clean slate.

Sometimes makes you wish life were more like baseball.

To bad the first game quickly manages to either overhype the season because of a good showing which sets up the disappoints to come bigger than they need be or mars that hope of a good season because a poor performance making the rest of the season a dim and dreary prospect....

Let's at least hope for the former... if you're going to be disappointed either way might as well have fun doing it.

the Indians will dominate the AL Central this year as long as their pitching keeps them in games, Hafner and Martinez will put up the offensive numbers and this will probly be Grady Sizemore's true breakout year, hopefully Keith Foulke and Trot Nixon put something together this year too

Cleveland definitely has playoff potential, the Tigers will probably be the toughest, but their young arms eventually may slide off a bit near the end, Twins pitching is very questionable beyond Santana, and the Sox traded away Garcia, leaving their pitching questionable too. If the whole Indians team can have their best years all at once and put it together, they could surprise people with a playoff berth and playoff run for sure.

I'm with you all it takes for this lineup to be unstoppable is peralta performing like he did in '05. the heart of the lineup cant be shut down ever and now with barfield and delluci it's well rounded from top to bottom. oh yeah, and why the hell did we re-sign michaels? how useless is that guy. I know hes a right handed bat but he just doesnt fit with this team.

I think filling the stadium with fans for the first month could really help the team...the guys on the field hardly have any energy to feed off of in games like we did during the "sell out" era. i understand we're not producing on the field but they need the hometown crowd in full force.
