There's bad...and then there's BAD!

How could a Browns fan ever be arrogant? Especially after what has transpired in the last decade. If ever there was a fan base that had zero reason to carry a sense of entitlement, it is the Browns fans.

And yet, despite all this, I actually expected the Browns to take care of business Sunday. Afterall, it was the Saints, who finished an abysmal 3-13 last season. Reggie Bush is a nice addition, but he's just one guy and was playing in his first professional football game.

The Saints were riddled with holes last season. Sure they had to deal with unsurmountable circumstances after Hurricane Katrina hit, but make no mistake, this was a BAD football team.

Not Sunday however. Sunday they came to Cleveland Browns stadium, kicked down the door, and had their way with our women and children. By the time they boarded the plane back to New Orleans, there was nothing left but piles of smoldering rubble.

In fairness, there is some talent on the field for the Browns, something we haven't had much of in the past. But the offensive line, LeCharles Bentley or not, is absolutely brutal. Five fat slobs struggling just to get into their three-point stances, probably grunting and groaning simultaneously.

The penalties were not just plentiful, but amazingly ill-timed. Cancelling one touchdown and what would have been a huge fourth down conversion.

The play calling and personnel decisions raised more questions than an episode of Jeopardy. Who was that Vickers guy running the ball on crucial third and shorts? Do we not have about 35 options better than him? Even the old, sturdy end-around to Dennis Northcutt would have fared better.

Now that the Browns have dropped one of the few games I chalked up as a "W" before the season, they are in serious trouble of entering the number one overall draft pick sweepstakes.

With a trip to Cincinnati Sunday, followed by the Ravens and then trips to Oakland and Carolina after that, it would almost take an act of Congress for the team to be any better than 1-4 by the bye week. With the rest of the AFC North sitting at 1-0 after impressive opening week wins, that would pretty much do it for yet another disappointing season.

Now the question remains, if they Browns find themselves eliminated by the first of November once again, who is the fall guy?

Phil Savage? probably not, see Roger Brown's column in todays PD for the reasoning on that.

Romeo? Possibly, but I still think he gets one more year regardless.

Mo Carthon? I'd be surprised if he makes it through the season.

Keep your heads up Browns fans, we've been through this routine before. If you're not tough, you're not a Cleveland fan.

You just wonder when it all will mercifully end.
